UPDATE: This contest has ended.
Have you ever traveled to Colombia? If not, here’s your chance!
In 2012, at the end of our Galapagos and Ecuador adventures, we tacked a few days onto the trip to visit Cartagena, Colombia. I never really shared any stories from the trip, only because I never got around to sorting and editing my photos! FINALLY, I spent a few hours last night to knock them out. I have shared two photos that you may remember: This one of a produce vendor and this one of a dancer in Bolivar Square–see “November”.
Why should you visit Cartagena?
Cartagena de Indias (a.k.a. “Cartagena”) is a charming colonial town, on the northeastern Caribbean coast of Colombia. Old Town Cartagena is a UNESCO World Heritage site, full of colorful architecture, street musicians, small hotels, restaurants and bars.
Cartagena is an incredibly diverse city with indigenous, African, Spanish, Arab, and nearby Caribbean cultures represented. All of these cultures come out in the music, art, and food.
Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez lived in Cartagena for many years. The city inspired his epic novels Love in the Time of Cholera and, One Hundred Years of Solitude.
The city’s historic fort and the wall surrounding the city is one of it’s most loved icons. It’s a great place to watch the sunset.
The city is a popular cruise ship port, so for a few hours mid-day the streets are crowded with tourists from around the world. BUT if you stay the night, you’ll have the city all to yourself. By night, the old town glows golden against the black sky.
I’m excited to share this opportunity for you to see yourself…
Win a trip for two to Cartagena, Colombia
LAN Airlines is trying to get more Americans to explore Colombia. When they reached out to me to ask me to help them promote this giveaway, I said yes because I enjoyed Cartagena so much, and, after traveling thousands of miles with them across South America, they are one of my favorite airlines (despite having their catchy boarding music etched into my brain…)
The winner will recieve:
- Two round-trip tickets on LAN Airlines from the United States.
- Four days/three nights in Cartagena with breakfast included.
- Accommodations at Casa San Agustin, a small hotel lovingly restored and located within Cartagena’s walled Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Winner must be legal residents or citizens of the USA. Sweepstakes ends at 11:59 pm (EDT), September 4.

LAN/TAM Airlines compensated me to share this post, but even had they not, I would think it’s a great opportunity to see a city I love. All opinions and photos are my own.

Hi Margalit! You didn’t like the fort? We didn’t get the chance to go there, but we did go up to the monastery on the hill and loved the view over the city!
I was traveling with two non-shoppers, so I didn’t do any shopping, but it was such a stylish place (and home to the National Beauty Pagent–there were models walking all around town when we were there!) it doesn’t surprise me that that it’s an excellent place to shop!
