I know we’ve been a bit lax about posting, but we’ve got several stories in the works. Our otherwise wonderful hotel in Valparaiso has a very weak and unstable internet connection, so I can only write something brief until we find an internet cafe or restaurant to post more.
Some of our recent experiences include:
- Flood cleanup, cemetaries and Croatian teahouses in Punta Arenas
- The Museum of the Memory and Human Rights–The one not-to-be-missed sight in Santiago to learn about Pinochet-era Chile
- Markets, street food and Chilean “terremotos”
- The vibrantly colored port city of Valparaiso with its many hills and antique funicular railways.
As I write this we are waiting for a ride to go take a Chilean cooking class from our hostel-owner’s mother. I hope this experience will help us bring a bit of Chilean culture home with us.
