I was in Huntington Beach, California the first time I saw a stretch of beach that had been given to dogs. The towels and beach chairs and soft white sand closer to the pier, gave way to well packed sand to the north coast where dozens of dogs ran off leash. I remember feeling excited as I watching them wrestle and splash in the surf, in love with life and enjoying every moment.
Since adopting our dog, Posey, one of our favorite local adventures includes going to the beach. While she enjoys these trips a lot, I’m not sure it even compares to how much fun I have watching her run and play with the other dogs, and the contagious joy of watching them frolic with the stunning backdrop of the ocean.
Here are a few photos from a recent sunset trip to Santa Cruz with my friend Cathy, and her black lab, Macie.
Do you (and your dog) have a favorite dog beach?

I loved the pics with this post–it reminds me of the times I’ve taken my dog, Jack to a beach or a dog park and just enjoyed watching him sniff, play, sneeze and take in the simple joys of la dulce vita!

Glad you liked them, Catya! Watching dogs run and play so joyfully is one of my favorite things. What kind of dog do you have?
