There are no Easter Bunnies to be seen here on the streets of Lima, but Peruvians are quite fond of guinea pigs (“cuy”). In addition to seeing them on restaurant menus (more on this later) they can be seen on t-shirts, postcards, and stuffed animals in souvenir shops across the country. We spotted these cute cuy on a bank wall advertising a credit card (click here to play a game with their adorable mascots). For me missing out on this annual opportunity to anthropomorphize cute rodents, I declare this the year of the Easter Cuy. Too bad they don’t deliver chocolate eggs…
Happy Easter to you all!
