I love fresh food markets and seek them out wherever I go. In Barcelona, La Boqueria Market (Mercat de La Boqueria, in Catalan), is just steps off of the Ramblas. It was cleaner, a bit less smelly, and had higher prices than more locally-oriented markets, but had an amazing selection of unique foods. If it is grown, raised, or foraged in Spain, you can probably find it here.
I love this fish and the way his head is displayed on the cabbage leaf like he’s to be served on an enormous plate of tapas.
And I love this fishmonger (according to Wikipedia the more appropriate term for a female vendor is ‘fishwife’, but I prefer the former). To me, she resembles a certain NPR radio host that I like.
Foto Friday is a series where I go back through my archives to share photos that I love either because I think they are beautiful or they have an interesting story. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
